The key here is that the origin of your model lines up with the origin of rotation so you end up rotating the model "around itself." If you instead translate to the new position and then rotate, your model will rotate as if it were orbiting the origin. Now when the camera (orthographic or perspective) sees only one of the objects, their rotation and position is showing correctly. But when i adjust the camera to see both of the objects, then both of the objects reset their rotation to 0 and vertical position to 0. EDIT1: I can confirm this happens because of the shader used.
